Minnesota Midget Melon
Minnesota Midget Melon – Heirloom, 1948
A compact, early ripening cantaloupe bred at the University of Minnesota for short northern summers. Minnesota Midget produces an abundance of small, 4-inch melons with deep orange, fragrant flesh and outstanding sweetness. Perfect for small gardens, raised beds, or containers. Each plant stays tidy yet delivers a generous harvest of personal-sized fruits. 25 seeds per packet
Growing Instructions
Planting time: Direct sow after danger of frost when soil is at least 70°F, or start indoors 3–4 weeks before transplanting.
Depth: ½ inch
Spacing: 2 feet apart in rows 4–5 feet apart, or plant 2–3 per hill spaced 3–4 feet apart.
Sun: Full sun
Days to maturity: 65–70 days
Notes: Mulch to retain soil warmth and moisture. Harvest when melons slip easily from the vine and emit a sweet aroma. Excellent for northern gardeners.
